MHBC was founded in 1973 by Ian MacNaughton who had a vision to create a planning firm built on innovation, integrity, strategic thinking, problem solving and excellent service. Over 40 years later, the company continues to build on these core principles and has grown from a vision to a staff of over 100 with 6 offices located in Barrie, Kingston, Kitchener, London, Woodbridge, and Burlington. Since 1973, MHBC has been providing exceptional Urban Planning, Resource Management, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture services to both public and private sector clients across Ontario. Legacy partners Bernie Hermsen, Paul Britton and Brent Clarkson joined the firm in 1975, 1986 and 1987 accordingly and the firm was renamed from MacNaughton Hermsen Britton Clarkson Planning Limited to MHBC.

The MHBC Burlington office was opened in 2016 and has grown from 4 planners to 12 professional planners, 2 planning technicians and an administrative assistant. “It was important for us to have a Downtown office to reinforce the importance of investment in the Urban Growth Centre of the City of Burlington and the need for continued business investment and a balance of growth between employment and residential downtown.” says Dana Anderson, Partner at MHBC. The Burlington office works on a wide range of projects across Ontario with a focus on private and public sector clients in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
