ACCOUNTING CLERK

Job Type: Full-Time (Contract w/possibility of going firm)

Description: The Accounting Clerk is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Responsible for processing multi-company accounting transactions efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy. The Accounting Clerk supervises one (1) Accounts Payable Coordinator and is responsible for ensuring that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities. The Accounting Clerk reports directly to the VP Finance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reconcile the cost control sheet against job costs to ensure invoices are allocated correctly
• Record holdbacks from vendors by maintaining control sheets
• Record purchaser deposit cheques in Timberline
• Reconcile the deposits in trust as reported by the lawyer’s trust account
• Record necessary entries for house closings
• Ensure timely receipt of all deposits and purchaser ledger, and ensure accurate account balances by project
• Reconcile job costing to the General Ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Review General Ledger accounts to ensure the expense and cost allocation is correct
• Prepare and post various journal entries to the General Ledger, including fixed assets, depreciation, accruals and year end entries
• Process accounts receivable, including all deposits and closing proceeds
• Monitor payments for rental properties and CAM by reconciling payments to schedules and identifying if payments are required

SITE SUPERVISOR (MID-RISE)

Well established construction company in Hamilton is expanding! We are looking for a highly skilled and personable Site Supervisor with strong work ethics that can meet tight timelines and interact with homeowners/trades.

The Site Supervisor is primarily responsible for controlling all of the daily operations on the job site. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing laborers and trades, maintenance of the construction schedule, scheduling installations and delivery of supplies as well as cost and quality control. S/he assists the Director of Construction to overseeing the timely construction of the building from framing to warranty service, request signoff while keeping to the budget. The Site Supervisor plays an integral role in ensuring zero defect suites through effective management of trades, inspectors, suppliers and staff.

ROLE SPECIFICS: • Coordinate and supervise all field personnel and sub-contractors to achieve all construction activities thru completion of a project on schedule, within budget and in accordance to the Ontario Building Code • Maintain construction schedules; identify and solve problems as necessary. Setting appropriate inspections as required throughout the process. • Ensure best practices are followed and techniques are used to produce the highest quality home. • Ensure all Health & Safety policies are promoted and adhered to on the job site and any job hazards are rectified immediately.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Ensures complete adherence to HBD Construction Processes, in accordance with Policy and Procedures. • Assists in monitoring & supervising on-site construction staff and daily trade functions promoting and maximizing timeliness, quality of workmanship and completion of work. Facilitates regular meetings and/or tool box talks with staff and trades to communicate production and safety requirements. • Conducts site walkthroughs to ensure deficiencies are noted, Building Code is adhered to, and the purchasers Design Options and Extras are complied with. • Adheres to procedures as required by the trade Scopes of Work and HBD Quality Standards and communicates corrective action required to Director of Construction • Is proactive and actively assists in problem solving when job site or construction issues occur (falling behind schedule, quality of work, etc.) while complying with policy, plans and specification. • Assists with managing the Production Schedule and maintains production targets and dates. • Schedules, facilitates and/or attends necessary municipal inspections. Assists Inspectors and Director of Construction with the completion of the review, and rectifies issues as required. • Ensures all work is being done in a safe manner and enforces safety standards and laws. • Work with the Safety Representative to maintain a safe work environment. Investigate and report all accidents to Head Office. • Ensure employees have required training and competent to perform tasks in a safe manner prior to commencement of work. • Manages the maintenance of job site ensuring it is clean and aesthetically appealing while under construction. • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 3 years of residential and mid-rise home construction A MUST
• Must have valid WHMIS, Working At Heights and First-Aid/CPR training
• Good knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and/or repair
of houses and buildings.
• Valid class G driver’s license

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Instruct apprentices when required
  • Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures
  • Operate power vibrators to compact concrete
  • Prepare granular sub-base
  • Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification
  • Fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured concreate (parging)
  • Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces
  • Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials and direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade
  • Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools (power trowels)
  • Shovel cement and other materials into cement mixers

The Estimator will be responsible for the preparation of material and quantity take-offs from engineering and architectural drawings, as well as preparing product breakdowns for costing and all costs associated with tendered estimates.

ACCOUNT MANAGER – RIDGEWAY, NIAGARA FALLS, SMITHVILLE AND DUNDAS LOCATIONS

Position Summary:

The Account Manager is responsible for acting as the primary contact for builders, renovators and or private home owners with a special project. The Account Manager must have the ability to effectively prepare lumber estimates, present truss and EWP estimates, sell and measure interior trim and doors, sell windows and doors for replacement or new construction, sell exterior steel, insulation and drywall.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains high standard of professionalism while liaising, consulting and communicating with customers regarding special projects.
  • Meets Company standards for customer service through meeting and identifying current and future needs of customers through friendly rapport and relationship building.
  • Analyzes blue prints and preliminary drawings.
  • Completes quantity take-offs for all products required including lumber, windows, EWP, Trusses, Trim, and Doors etc.
  • Deals directly with vendors and complete special orders as required.
  • Completes basic Truss designs from price book as required. * Ensures the availability of products and services through coordinating with Managers and Manufacturing plants to fill customer orders; arranging and prioritizing deliveries.
  • Coordinates with specific Branches for specialized quotes. * Supports the sales efforts of the Outside Sales Staff by assisting in the completion of take-offs, quotations, etc.
  • Meets financial objectives by overseeing the management of accounts receivable for all assigned accounts.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for any and all other duties as may be required from time to time in accordance with proper training and certification requirements.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School
  • Completion of a three year College program in civil or construction engineering technology; or several years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson in a construction trade such as plumbing or carpentry.
  • Knowledge of building codes
  • Experience of construction industry an asset
  • Computer (PC) literate
  • Ability to multitask in a fast pace work environment

TRUSS DESIGNER POSITION

Position Summary:

The Designer will efficiently and accurately design and estimate both trusses and EWP in compliance with the OBC based on approved plans submitted by the customer. Hours are Monday – Friday 7:00am-4:00pm.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Design:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints to create residential truss designs
  • Meets Turkstra’s Design Standards/Protocol
  • Develops innovative and creative ways to solve design and plan issues
  • Assists team members by providing coverage, suggestions and design reviews
  • Minimizes errors and provides resolutions when mistakes occur
  • Follows Turkstra’s Standard Operating Procedure for Design Processes
  • Considers production and cost efficiency for both the Production Team and the customer
  • Produces designs in a time efficient manner
  • Utilizes down time on value added project
  • Provide error free design of roof and floor systems for estimating and production
  • Determine procedures and instructions to be followed according to design specifications
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Architects/Designers, Sales Team, Framers, and Builders
  • Provide strong customer service with onsite and in office consultations to ensure best possible design for easy, accurate installation
  • Maintain open communication with the customer, sales rep, office administrator, design manager, and production manager
  • Support Turkstra Lumber sales team in negotiation, presentations and designs
  • Remain current with building trends to lead the industry in engineered wood products and design while promoting Turkstra Lumber products when possible
  • Sustains office and workplace cleanliness

 

Administration:

  • Maintains job status log (iCommand)
  • Participates in general office maintenance
  • Participates in activities with Marketing Team by providing relevant content for web and social media
  • Follows Turkstra’s approach to world class customer service (internal and external customers)
  • Advises customers by providing proficient knowledge of design principles using resources where required

 

Professional Development:

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of Design software (Alpine, BC Calc, iStruct)
  • Attends Turkstra University classes and retains knowledge (Falcon, soft skills)
  • Assists in training co-op students
  • Maintains up to date product knowledge as provided by vendors and associations
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of Ontario Building Code

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate reports to discover trends, wins/loses for weekly submission

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • College Diploma in Architectural or Civil Technology/Engineering
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in roof truss design preferred
  • Vocational training an asset
  • Experience or knowledge with related products and services
  • Experience in construction industry, framing or carpentry specifically, is an asset
