Hamilton, May 8 2020 – A group of local businesses is stepping up to thank first responders, health care workers, and other essential employees during this time of pandemic. The West End Home Builders’ Association, along with Utter Morris Insurance Brokers, The Leggat Auto Group and the John Trim Group at Scotia Capitol Wealth Management, are working together to thank the front-line staff keeping our community going during the COVID-19 crisis.
The Local businesses have banded together and partnered with local restaurants to provide free meals each week to essential employees who are still at work during the pandemic, as a special gesture of thanks and support.
“We are very proud to be part of this great initiative and to have the opportunity to thank the healthcare workers, first responders and essential employees who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe “ said Robert Molinaro, West End HBA President.
Since April 9, our President Robert Molinaro along with representatives from Utter/Morris, Leggat Auto Group, and the John Trim Group have been dropping off weekly meals at various local organizations, including St. Joseph’s Hospital, various local Fire & EMS Stations, and St. Joseph’s Villa, one of Ontario’s largest long-term care facilities.
The goal of the program is not just to thank the first responders and health heroes keeping us all safe, but also to support local restaurants who may be struggling during this time. So far the group has worked with Camp 31 BBQ, the Thirsty Cactus Cantina & Grill, La Piazza Allegra, and Denninger’s Foods of the World.
“The support that we’re seeing from the community means a whole lot to our crews”, said Vanessa Vis, an Advanced Care Paramedic with Halton Region EMS, “It’s overwhelming. They’re very grateful and thankful for it”.
“We are overwhelmed by the community support for our frontline health care team”, said Mieke Ewen, Administrator at St. Joseph’s Villa. “Having local businesses deliver meals for our staff is inspiring. It gives us extra energy we need during these long shifts caring for residents during the pandemic”.
The sponsoring businesses plan to keep this initiative running for the next couple months, bringing on new partners and new restaurants all the time.
